September

For September, our image is of a couple of the more than 1000 food trucks in Austin. This photo is of the South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery. Torrchy's Taco started business as a food truck in the Bouldin Creek area of South Austin in 2006. They now have some 40 restaurants across three states.

November

For November, our Austin photo of the month is of the Texas State Cemetery. The cemetery is located in east Austin at 901 Navasota Street. It serves as the final resting spot for many prominent Texas citizens. Here are some of those buried at the Texas State Cemetery: Stephen F. Austin, Ann Richards, Barbara Jordon and Darrell Royal. There are cenotaphs for Tom Landry and John Tower. A friend of mine Judge Earl B. "Smokey" Stover is also buried here.

August

The big story in Austin as well as Texas, especially coastal Texas for August, is Hurricane Harvey. Harvey made landfall on August 25 about midnight in Rockport, Texas. In Austin we experienced heavy rains and wind from Harvey's outer bands. We measured 10.4" of rain in our backyard rain gauge. The only damage we had was a downed tree in the park behind our house and a collapsed section of our fence.

October

For October, our Austin photo is of "Monochrome for Austin" a 50 foot sculpture made with 75 boats on the campus of the University of Texas. You can see the top of the UT tower in the background. The artist is Nancy Rubins with the help of structural engineer, Jaime Garza.

December

For December we show a couple of scenes( roof top garden and lobby) from the new Austin Library, which opened October 28, 2017. The 6 floor 198,00 sq.ft. structure is at 710 W. Cesar Chavez. Some unique features of this made for the future building are shared learning rooms, a "technology petting zoo", special events center, the Cookbook restaurant, a roof top garden, a chidrens center and books.
