Dominica
On December 21, 2010 our cruise ship docked at Roseau, the capital of Dominica. Columbus sailed by the island on Domingo (Spanish for Sunday) November 3, 1493. He didn't make landfall, but named the island for the day he passed by.
Dominica gained its independence from the British in 1978. The views above at at left are of Roseau from Morne Bruce.
We spent the day touring the lush green island. The tour included stops at the Emerald pool and Mero Beach, a volcanic black sand beach.
